I am knocking on wood right now, but I think that I am totally out of baby mode parenting and beginning to raise a little boy. Many changes have taken place in the month of May, the newest which is a successful potty training week! We have officially been in big boy underpants since last Saturday, wearing only a pull up at night time. Last Friday we were at a birthday party and another mom told me that when she did potty training with her little boy, they stayed home for three days and let him run around naked. I at first laughed, but the more I thought about it, the more it made sense that it actually might work for Rylan. For the past month or so, every time that we are in the pool, he will get out and tell me that he has to go potty. He was told that he wasn't allowed to pee in the pool or in his bathing suit, so he didn't. So I figured that he knows he is not allowed to pee on the floor, or on his toys, or in his bed, and I gave it a try. It worked! I swear, it was like magic. We even ventured out to a birthday party on Saturday with no diaper, went to church on Sunday with no diaper, and there were not accidents! We stayed at home for a few days, but then ran errands all morning on Wednesday and Thursday and he did excellent, even telling me when he had to go. He is doing an amazing job and I hope it continues. Here's to luck, good timing, and a smart little boy!
We have also already switched to a big boy bed. He took to his bed almost immediately and we have had no problems. The two goals I had for the summer are already checked off of my list and June hasn't even begun! Guess I need to find some other things to do!
Today was also a good moment for me because it was Rylan's 6 month review with the Katy ECI program. One goal that we had 6 months ago was for Rylan to be using words in phrases and talking more than gesturing...check! The other goal involved large motor skills and walking upright up the stairs instead of crawling...check! I decided to do what is called case management status, which will still keep us in the program just in case there are setbacks, but they will just meet with us once a month for 30 minutes until he is 3. His articulation is getting better each week and he is definitely comfortable talking now!
So things are going really well for our little boy. We have a 5 week music class planned for the summer and I am going to be looking into swimming lessons soon. Rylan and I will be heading to Michigan the end of July for a couple of weeks as Jason stays here to begin his MBA program. Besides that, we have a pretty low key summer. I guess a couple of months to relax before the chaos begins all over again is a good thing :).

Enjoying a lazy Saturday!
It has been raining here nonstop since yesterday afternoon...and I LOVE it! Rain is great every once in a while. The sound of it against the rooftop can be so soothing. I think we are finally getting healthy around here. Jason and I both had nasty stomach bugs and Ry had a fever for a few days. I am so glad that Ry seemed to deal with the virus only through fever. We just laid low for a few days and he seems to be back to normal. Since J was sick on Mother's Day I have gotten my make up Mother's Day today. I met Jason and Rylan at McDonald's (Rylan's choice :)) after a friend's baby shower. Then I came home to be surprised by the cutest little computer ever that I am typing on right now. I mentioned to J last week that I needed a new battery for my laptop cause it always has to be plugged in, and instead I got this little 10" little thing that weighs like 2 pounds and has a 9 hour battery life. So excited! J made a joke that he was lucky he was only a week late cause what would he of had to buy if it was even later. Ha ha! He and Ry found a great little deal today at Best Buy so I got lucky! Tonight we are going to head to our favorite restaurant Karl's for some yummy German food that we miss so dearly :). Happy Saturday!

Trucks and cars and trains oh my!
We had a very exciting day today. My MOPS group was able to meet up at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Sugarland to check out the Memorial Hermann Life Flight helicopter. The kids got to look around and even get inside of it. It was of course a huge hit for Rylan. He is still big into any type of vehicle. Almost every time we get into the car he asks, "Mom, me see a dump dump truck, school bus, po po, fire truck, ambulance?" I keep telling him I wish I could do magic and make them appear out of nowhere!
Afterward, we picked up some lunch and headed over to a Parkway UMC park. It is very pretty with a great pond, beautiful flowers, Jesus' tomb... :). I was cracking up cause some of the boys were saying it was a bear cave. Well, you know, little boys are little boys!
We had neighbors over on Saturday for crawfish and pool fun. Around all of that, J and I had a nasty stomach bug yesterday and Thursday respectively. I am praying and keeping my fingers crossed that Rylan will stay clear of it. Happy Mother's Day Moms!
