8 week stats
Callie Jae weighed in at 10 lbs. 8 oz. (46th percentile) and measured 1'11" (79th percentile). Still long and skinny with a smaller head (38th percentile). :) She got 4 vaccines, 3 shots and an oral one, and did pretty well.

Quick Post!
I think they are all going to be "quick posts" for awhile! I have about 5 minutes before peanut wakes up!
Life here at the Eckel house has been going pretty smoothly, knock on wood. Callie Jae had a frequent nursing day yesterday, nursing every two hours, so today she has been sleeping almost the whole day. It seems to work out that way with her. When she has done this frequent feeding thing, it always seems to be followed by a day of rest. My guesstimate is that she weighs about 10 pounds now. She has outgrown her newborn clothes and beginning to fit into most of her 3M clothing, which is much cuter than the newborn stuff. Her problem is that she is long and skinny, so it fits her in the length, but she has issues with things around the waist because they are too big. She is my perfect little peanut though. On Sunday night of this past week, right before her 6 week birthday, she began only waking up once during the night (with the exception of her frequent feedings last night). That's my girl! Mommy looks forward to a few more weeks from now when she will hopefully not wake up at all. It has taken some work, but it definitely all pays off in my opinion!
We went as a family down to Sugarland today for Vincent's birthday party. It was so nice to be there as a family because usually Jason is not able to come and I am the only one sans husband. ALL of the kiddos were there...the older group and all of the new siblings. We actually have the oldest and the youngest :). It was a blast watching the kids play at the park. There was a nice bike path so the kiddos rode their bikes (Ry his scooter cause he hasn't mastered the bike yet), played on the playground, kicked around a soccer ball, and had lunch. The weather was perfect and it was just so nice to be with all of our friends at a low key event where the kids could be outside letting loose :). We arrived at 11:15 and Callie Jae slept the whole car ride down and then until 1:15. I nursed her and then we were back in the car at 2 heading back home and she has been asleep since the car ride. I really need to go wake her to feed her again so until next time...

One more night left!
J comes home Friday so I only have one more day to survive. I keep saying that the first month I think new mommies must survive on adrenaline because the exhaustion has really kicked in at this point. Callie Jae does really well at night only waking up twice, nursing quickly, and going back down quickly, but I think it's the interrupted sleep that is killing me. I am so thankful that she has been a pretty easy going baby so far. She pretty much does what she is supposed to: nurses, waketime for a total of about 60 minutes (which includes the nursing), and then naps until it is time to nurse again. She cries if she is hungry, has to burp, or has to poop (she is a gassy little thing). She also cries upon getting in her car seat but calms down immediately upon the car moving. She sleeps in the car like a dream. Both of my kiddos have been going down for bed by 8 without complaints and I get some me time. I know the next five weeks or so will go by quickly and my sweet girl will be sleeping through night hopefully. Until then, hang in there with me if I say weird things, take days to return calls/emails, or lose my patience. Sleep is a wonderful thing that will make me feel like a new person soon enough!

"Rylan-isms"
Jason and I just got in trouble. We are watching the CMA's and Rylan just came out of his room and said, "your music is waking me up!"

Last week as we were driving to school I was talking about how chilly it was that morning and my son said, "it's colder than my nipples." ??? Don't ask me where he got that one!

My Uncle Jim and cousin Anna were visiting U of H last week and stopped by for dinner on Wednesday. My Uncle was asking Ry if he had a girlfriend while we were eating dinner. Rylan was laughing and leaned over to me and whispered, "Mom, you tell Uncle Jim who my girlfriend is." I of course asked who that might be and he said, "Taylor Swift." He really does not forget a thing! He used to say that awhile back. Funny boy.

Wish me luck and say some prayers for me this week. J is entertaining customers at the Masters all week and won't be home until Friday evening. Lord, please help me make it through the week with my boundary pushing, testing, not listening, whiny, 3.5 year old little 'angel.' ;) (gotta love this new stage as of the last two weeks...which I'm sure is a combination of many things but consensus says mostly a 3.5 year old stage...ughhh)

Missi and Pop's Visit
Missi and Pop left yesterday and we had a good visit. Missi was able to meet Callie Jae for the first time and I am pretty sure she is in love like we all are! Even though Rylan had a rough week, I think everyone was able to enjoy their time together. Missi and Pop were able to take Rylan to school and swimming lessons, there were many trips to the park, a trip to Toys R Us, and as always, projects. Jason and his Dad built a fence around our pool equipment so that we can store all of our pool supplies and keep it out of view from the street. Dad did most of the work while J was working and it is much appreciated. He also put together some new patio chairs for me and Mom and I went to the garden center and picked out some flowers for pots. The swimming season is approaching and we are now ready!
The biggest event that took place is that Callie Jae actually rolled over during her tummy time multiple times! I don't know many 3 1/2 week olds that have done that! It was very impressive and we all found it pretty funny! Go Callie Jae! She is going to be a strong one. I see her beating up her brother in the future :)!

4 Weeks!
First I must apologize for the three week delay. I am sure that you understand that life has been a little crazy trying to get everyone adjusted :)!
Looking back a couple of weeks, I will start with some stats! Callie Jae's two week check up was great. She weighed in at her birth weight, which is right where we needed her to be. Rylan went to the appointment with me and was very confused as to why Dr. Harry had called in sick. He did not quite understand how doctors could get sick. We had to see Dr. Harry's older brother, who is probably close to 80, but these 4 brothers in this practice are awesome! I just love their thoroughness and kind hearts. We drive a good 25 minutes to get there, but it is seriously worth every second.
Today, Callie Jae had another appointment for her 1 month check up and she weighed in at a whopping 8.5 lbs! She was around the 75th percentile for height and 25th percentile for weight. Dr. Harry said it looks like she will be long and lean like her mommy...wish mommy felt that way ;). I have about another 10 pounds to go and some life changing eating and working out habits to establish before I feel that way. Once we get life figured out, hopefully the whole family can get into a more physical and healthy lifestyle. I can barely stay awake throughout the day. The thought of working out right now is way out of my scope. Soon enough she will be sleeping through the night though and life will get much more restful.
We all have been doing as well as can be expected. Rylan adjusted well after my parents left and we had a decent week alone, but the day before Missi and Pop arrived he got into a funk and has been in one for about a week. I am sure it is a combination of visitors, turning 3.5, and baby jealousy, although he shows no ill feelings toward Callie Jae. It is actually quite the opposite. He loves to kiss and hug on her and is extremely gentle. Hopefully the next few weeks alone will allow us all to get into a new groove in our new lives. I can't entirely blame him either. I know that my lack of sleep brings a lack of patience. It will all be good. I joked with Missi and Pop and Jason last night. They all left today and I told them all that it will be Sarah boot camp around here for a couple of days to get everyone back to where they need to be. Goal: to get both kids in bed and sleeping by 8:00. Callie Jae has had us all wrapped around her little finger this last month because we caved to her 8:00 cries and allowed her to stay up with all of us. That will not work in a house where Daddy travels and Mommy is exhausted. Tonight, she was asleep after only 10 minutes and both kids were out by 8:22...funny how prevalent the clock becomes when you are so sleepy from interrupted sleep.
Speaking of sleep, Callie Jae is doing really well. It has been an experiment doing Babywise from the beginning. She is right on track though. She eats, has her wake time of about 60 minutes total including nursing, and then naps. If she cries for a nap, it is short lived. She wakes twice in the middle of the night for two short nursings. Sometimes I have to wake her after five hours, so I think in the next couple of weeks dropping one of those feedings should be fairly easy and then transitioning to a full night sleep should fall right into place as well.
Things are good. I can't complain. I can't jump for joy cause I miss my hubby already after one night and he is gone until Wednesday then gone all next week. That makes for an even more tired Mommy than I thought possible but at least I can go to bed early without feeling guilty. Speaking of which, that is exactly what I'm going to do now. Callie Jae is 1 week old!
It has been a fantastic week! What a blessing to have our new addition in our lives. Callie Jae so far has been a really great baby. I know she may not stay that way ;), but so far she has made our first week transition go very smoothly. CJ is a great sleeper and has even allowed Mommy to have some pretty restful nights, as much as you can have with a newborn. For the most part, she nurses every 3 hours, with some 2.5 hour times thrown in the mix. At night, she has gone about 4-5 hours of straight sleep before either I have to wake her up, or she does so on her own. It really has been a night and day experience from Rylan. From how great I feel post delivery, to how content she is so far, I couldn't be happier.
Now of course, Grandma and Papa are here to entertain Rylan and take care of things. They have been absolutely amazing and helpful. Rylan is being spoiled rotten and Mommy is able to rest, eat, and take care of Callie Jae exclusively. I could not be more appreciative of my parents. They have been so wonderful and Rylan is enjoying every minute to the point of choosing "Ganma" over me to play with. They just can't say no to him :). I do think though that when they leave, he knows that it will be different. When we have been alone a couple of times, he really has not bugged me to much to "play with me" like he constantly is saying to my parents. He really has been a playing machine and asked my Mom today when they picked him up from school if they could go home and play in his room.
Rylan has also been a great big brother and super sweet with Callie Jae. He calls her his baby sister or his baby. When he can't find her, he will say, "where is my baby?" He attitude towards her did not even change after a rather poopy incident. This is a story that will be told for years. CJ seems to have projectile and forceful poops. The other day when it was time to change her diaper, Rylan wanted to help. We went into the nursery and I put Callie Jae up on the changing table. There is a basket of diapers at the end of the table and I asked Ry to grab me a diaper. While he was bending down to get a diaper, I removed Callie Jae's and was lifting up her legs when the rainbow of poop exploded from her bottom, across the changing table, all over Rylan's head and clothes, the walls, carpet, and basket of diapers. Rylan freaked, I yelled for my Mom, and then the clean up began. Rylan was crying and I threw him in the tub, but soon took on a sense of humor about it with Papa's jokes. He laughed afterward and later told me that he was sorry that his baby sister had pooped all over the place. Could he be any sweeter, even after something like that happens?
So all is wonderful in the Eckel household. There is something so sweet and precious about having a newborn around. Callie Jae makes us all big softies. She has us all wrapped around her little finger!

Callie Jae's Birthday!
Well, I actually have a calm minute so I thought I would share our experience :).
Sunday evening, the 27th at 10 p.m., we went to Katy Memorial Herman to begin the induction. The plan was to get hooked up to an IV, start my antibiotics for the Group B Strep, and receive a cream that is supposed to ripen the cervix. However, after getting hooked up, the nurse checked me and I was 3 cm and having regular contractions every 3-6 minutes. With a call into Dr. Cole, it was decided to just wait until morning because apparently I was progressing fine on my own.
Around 7:15, the nurse (Jennifer ironically enough :)) came in to administer my second dose of antibiotic and begin a gradual pitocin drip. The contractions picked up a little and were slightly more intense, but I still did not want to receive an epidural because I was afraid it would stall my progression. Jennifer offered me something to just ease the pain through my IV, and that actually allowed me to dose off for about an hour. Around 11, Dr. Cole came into break my water and she suggested the epidural at that point which I agreed to. I probably should have gotten it sooner because immediately the contractions became really intense, closer together, and painful while I waited for the epidural. When I received the epidural they got better, but only on my left side. My right side could feel everything, just like with Rylan. We determined that there must be some sort of curvature or something in my spine that prevents it from taking full effect on both sides. I have to say that I have NO IDEA how people go through natural labor. What I felt was seriously ridiculous, although that could be because I dilated from 4.5 to 10 cm within an hour. It was really fast, just like with Rylan. I think it was around noon that I said, "um, why do I feel a lot of pressure and the need to push?" Sure enough, she was right there. Dr. Cole had left to go home, so they told me not to push. "Jason, how do I not push?" HA! I did hold off until she got there and it was three controlled and easy pushes and she was out without any trauma to me. It was probably good that the epidural did not work on the right side because I did feel the need to push and when I did push, it lessened the pain.
Callie Jae was born at 7 lbs. 2 oz., and 19 inches long. She cried the entire first hour she was with us and did not latch on until the last five minutes. However, the nursery nurse told us that she still had a lot of mucus and spit up quite a bit for awhile when she was in there. Callie Jae was a little gassy in the hospital for the first couple of days so she probably was just working it all out.
So that is my labor and delivery experience. It went so well and I was so happy and relieved with the end results. I feel great and thank God because life just doesn't stop when you have a 3 year old to take care of :).
Thank you God for being with me every step of the way and for guiding me in all of the decision making that occurred during this pregnancy. We are so blessed once again with a healthy, beautiful, and sweet little girl. She has us all wrapped around her little finger already!
